It’s not every day that two brothers emerge as exceptionally talented musicians and songwriters—let alone the chance to collaborate with both. Working with Ross Thorn was a standout experience, and I hope it’s just the first of many projects together. This recording, captured live at the stunning Northland Pines Theater in Eagle River, Wisconsin, was nothing short of inspiring. The Thorn brothers pulled together an incredible night of music, and you might even catch a few surprise appearances from Garrett throughout the performance.
One thing that sets Ross apart is his raw, unfiltered musical style. He embodies everything I love about authentic, heartfelt songwriting. If Garrett’s music is like a finely aged bourbon—smooth, polished, and deeply rooted in tradition—then Ross’s music is the raw, potent moonshine crafted in a century-old still hidden away in the hills behind your great uncle’s cabin. Growing up, I listened to a lot of music like this with my dad, and there’s something special about reconnecting with that sound through Ross’s work.
Anytime I get the chance to mix a project that carries this much emotion and authenticity, it’s an honor. Ross’s voice, the stripped-down instrumentation, and the storytelling in each song make this recording a prime example of high-quality Americana music. I’m already looking forward to what’s next, but for now, consider me Ross’s newest and most enthusiastic supporter.
