The Trujillo Company – 4 Arrows

The Trujillo Company was the first band I collaborated with after moving to Denver in 2021, and from the jump, I knew this project was going to be something special. There’s something about power trios—the raw energy, the tight chemistry—that always hits different. This record was no exception.

We tracked the album in a cavernous warehouse in central Denver over the course of a long weekend. The band sought me out specifically because they knew I was all about live tracking in unconventional spaces, using the environment to shape the sound. That choice paid off big time—the natural warehouse reverb gave the album an atmospheric, larger-than-life feel. The drums? Absolutely massive. We went all in, using a 42-inch unported kick drum that felt like it could shake the building.

One of my favorite parts of the process was recording the guitar overdubs. We set up Mike’s amps in different spots around the warehouse, cranked them to their limits, and let the open air work its magic. The vocals, on the other hand, were tracked in my home studio, giving them the clarity and warmth they needed to cut through the mix.

I’m already looking forward to getting back in the studio with The Trujillo Company for their next record in 2025. This project reinforced why I love Denver’s music scene—so much talent, so much creative energy, and endless opportunities to capture something raw and real. I can’t wait to see where we take things next.
