Some collaborations come out of nowhere but feel like they were always meant to happen. That’s exactly how it was when GLDED hit me up in 2016. We hadn’t talked in over a decade—we grew up in the same neighborhood, but life took us in different directions. He was out in Chicago, doing his thing, while I was deep into my work in Nashville. When he reached out about working together on his debut EP, I didn’t even have to think about it. I was in.
There’s something special about reconnecting with someone after so many years and realizing the chemistry is still there. He made the trip down to Nashville, and we locked ourselves in the studio for a few days, dialing in the sound, shaping the vision, and making sure every track hit the way it needed to. It wasn’t just about making music—it was about picking up where we left off, but this time with years of experience under our belts.
The EP was the beginning of something bigger. It proved that the connection we had growing up hadn’t faded—it had just been waiting for the right time to come back around. Working with GLDED reminded me that the best collaborations don’t feel like work. They feel like two people chasing the same vision, pushing each other, and making something real. And I know for a fact, this won’t be the last time we create together.
