King Buffalo- Longing to Be the Mountain

Working on King Buffalo’s second LP was one of those experiences that sticks with you. In the winter of 2018, Ben McLeod (guitarist for All Them Witches) and I made the trip to Rochester, NY, to record at the Main Street Armory—which, for lack of a better description, is a literal freaking castle. The space itself became part of the record, adding a depth and weight to the music that you just can’t fake.

This album was all about pushing sonic boundaries. We ran drum tracks through the cavernous main lobby, letting the natural reverberations shape the sound in ways no plugin ever could. Every guitar tone, every snare hit—everything was built with intention, meticulously sculpted to match the energy of the songs. This wasn’t just another record; it was an exploration, a deep dive into new textures and dynamics that elevated King Buffalo’s already massive sound.

The result? Easily one of the heaviest, richest, and most immersive records I’ve ever had the privilege to work on. King Buffalo operates in a space where power meets beauty, and this LP captures that balance perfectly. If you haven’t already, carve out some time, turn the volume up, and let this album take you somewhere else. Trust me—you won’t regret it.
